Morgantown came in 2nd place on Livablity’s list of 2014 Top 10 Cities for Affordable Health Care.
Livability sites a variety of reasons for this high national ranking, including West Virginia University, local hospitals, and other “vitals.”
1. West Virginia University: West Virginia University’s University Healthcare is Morgantown’s largest employer, and the university also provides a variety of athletic, educational, and entertainment events.
2. Hospitals: There are five hospitals in the Morgantown area, with U.S. News & World Report awarding WVU Hospitals high-performing status in 12 specialties.
3. Vitals: Although Morgantown has a high prevalence of healthcare institutions, it has a health care spending rate that is far below the national average.
