What is the Promotion Committee?

The role of the Promotion Committee is to promote the Main Street district as the “center for commerce, culture, and community life for residents and visitors alike.”  The focus of the group is creating new campaigns, promotional material, and events, and they work closely with the Organization Committee in understanding the changing market, identifying the districts assets, and creating or developing their “niche” market.

In the world of downtown districts, image plays a large part in the overall success of your organization and this is one of the responsibilities of the Promotion Committee.  They can change the public’s attitude about the district by focusing attention on its best attributes, and can build a unified image by targeting their “niche” market, generate excitement and buzz by making the district the hub for community life; which is often done by sponsoring or co-sponsoring events.  The committee also communicates the progress and successes of the district to encourage more investors and customers to the district.

Main Street Morgantown’s Promotion Committee hosts a number of annual events, as well as other smaller or co-sponsored events throughout the year.  Their annual events include Chocolate Lovers’ Day (April 18, 2015), Kids Day (July 18, 2015), Arts Walk & Art is Food (October 2, 2015). They also help promote Small Business Saturday (November 28, 2015) and co-sponsor Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration (January 18, 2016).    This year they are discussing creating a downtown bazaar and a cruise-in.  These events are meant to bring residents and visitors into the MSM districts to create a sense of community enjoyment and increase economic development.

Monthly updates on the Promotion Committee will be posted on our blog.  Also stay up to date on our events, as well as other events in the downtown in our ‘It’s Happening Downtown’ blog (published every Monday afternoon), Facebook, twitter, and our website.
