A Brighter Downtown

Who doesn’t want to walk down a bright active downtown street?  This is exactly what Main Street Morgantown is working towards.  One can’t help but feeling a sense of darkness when walking down High St in the evening, especially considering it is dark now by 5:00 pm.  There is a reason for this, the lighting that was installed when the Streetscape project was completed, was not as bright as it could have been.

Main Street Morgantown has been working on a lighting initiative for some time now and is gaining momentum.  We have measured the light out put for the lighting fixtures currently on High St. and have researched new lighting fixtures that can be easily installed in the existing light poles.  We have received a sample of the lighting we wish to purchase, measured the light output, and are now waiting for all the necessary permits and permission in order to have these installed.

Our ultimate goal is to create an environment that directly addresses the public pedestrian safety and reinforces the comfort you should feel in a safe and welcoming downtown district.
