This personal rapid transit (PRT) system was designed in great part by Professor Samy G. Elias of West Virginia University’s School of Engineering. Professor Elias believed that the PRT would be a logical solution to the movement of students between West Virginia University’s three campuses. NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory was the system manager, Boeing was the vehicle manufacturer, Bendix Company was the control system supplier, and F. R. Harris Engineering Company designed and constructed the guideway, stations, and other fixed facilities.
The PRT was dedicated in 1972 by Patricia Nixon, the daughter of President Richard M. Nixon. It is still operational today.
